2017 on Tanda Malaika
2016 has been a wonderful year of discovery and adventure on Tanda Malaika. It began with our wonderful friends, the Nell family, joining us for New Years in Mexico, and continued on with family coming and going as we traveled through incredibly beautiful places. The Nell’s joined us again for an extended stay which was tons of fun, and we ended it with yet another wonderful family onboard, the Keck family, in Panama.
We have now traveled about 6600 nautical miles, which is 7600 land miles, and in 2016 we visited 14 countries. Tanda Malaika has faithfully carried us safely and we have tried to take good care of her too. In this year we have added solar panels, lithium ion batteries, a new generator, new auto pilot and wind indicator, new stern salon cushions, some new lines and mended sails, as well as many other pumps and gadgets. We love our home and hope to continue to sail the world for many years to come.
Our plans for 2017 are to go through the Panama Canal in January, then sail over to Ecuador, rent a car and explore Peru. We will then sail to Galapagos, followed by a 21 day sail to Marquesas, which will be a fun but very long sail with no land in sight. After Marquesas we will explore Tuamotos, Tahiti, Cook Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island and finally stop in New Zealand for a while. We have no set time frame and hope to do plenty of humanitarian work along the way.
Over this year we have had about 85000 hits on our blog and have enjoyed many many emails from those that join us on our journey through it. Thank you so much for being with us in Spirit. Thank you for your love and encouragement, and please know we love you too. We love your comments and thoroughly enjoy your emails.
We hope this new year brings simplicity, adventure and peace to your lives.
Loving you madly,
The Tanda Malaika Crew
