Working hard

Posted on

This morning I awoke to the sound of Aidan and Emma singing in the galley. It’s their dishes day today and they sing together as they work, sometimes using whisks and spatulas as microphones.

Today was cleaning day on the two catamarans that Jude is taking care of, so we all set off in the rain to get busy. First we doused the decks with a vinegar/water mix to kill any mold growth and then we filled buckets with soapy water and got on our hands and knees and scrubbed.

As always we ended up in a water fight, and after 2 or 3 hours of hard work and completely drenched, we made our way back to Tanda Malaika. Since we were already wet we decided to mark the anchor chain and then scrub our boat too.

We pulled out all 150ft of chain and lay it out on the deck.

Then we measured out the first 25ft and placed a zip-tie, then 2 zip-ties at 50ft, 3 at 75ft etc etc.

That way as we drop anchor we can watch the chain and know how much we’ve let out.

Some of the creatures went for another dinghy adventure and were gone for quite some time, as I took care of some things around the boat. After a couple hours I heard jazz music and looked out to see them returning.  They decided to row so they could fish along the way and were listening to jazz.  It made me smile.

This evening we asked Aundrea if she’d like to go up the mast and she was eager to try.  She did beautifully.

It drizzled gently all day, keeping the temperature nice and cool, which allowed us to be so productive. We are all tired but feel good about our accomplishments. We ate a delicious dinner together and now are all snuggled down watching a movie. Life is good and I am so grateful for my amazing creatures.
